What if healing didn’t require fixing—only shared presence with a horse?
Nokota Grace offers a sanctuary-based experience where healing unfolds through relationship rather than instruction. In the quiet company of horses, people are invited to slow down, breathe, and be met without expectation or performance. The horses do not ask for change or effort; they respond only to what is present. In this shared space—held by land, animal, and time—many find a natural settling, clarity, and sense of being accompanied that words alone cannot provide.
Are you curious about why horses do this work?
Horses are deeply attuned beings. They respond not to words, but to what is real—breath, posture, emotion, and intention. In their presence, people often become more aware of their own inner state without being asked to analyze or explain it.
This makes horses powerful partners for those who are:
navigating life transitions
carrying grief or emotional fatigue
seeking grounding and clarity
longing to feel more embodied and present
tired of being told how to fix themselves
The horses do not teach by instruction. They offer feedback simply by being themselves.
How does a session feel?
Welcome to Nokota Grace... Walk with me to a place where you are understood without speaking, embraced without touch, and valued just as you are. Here, you can pause, breathe in the peaceful, healing energy of the horses, and let both the land and these incredible animals bring warmth to your heart.
Sit and rest, letting the gentle presence of the horses and the serene landscape wash over you. Allow yourself to feel the gift of peace and a true sense of being, where worries fade and your spirit can simply be present. In this moment, surrounded by grace, you are home.
Nokota Grace is grounded in trauma-informed, body-aware practice. Sessions emphasize:
gentle pacing
somatic awareness
nonverbal communication
emotional safety
respect for personal boundaries
Healing here is not something done to someone.
It unfolds with them—through relationship, time, and trust.
Often, simply being in the presence of a calm, regulated horse allows the human body to settle in ways words cannot.
Nokota Grace services take place at RiverView Farm Sanctuary, a setting that supports the work through its own natural rhythm. The land itself contributes to the experience—encouraging slowing down, softening, and attention to the present moment.
Visiting RiverView Farm Sanctuary in Lisbon, Maine offers a warm and immersive glimpse into the tranquil world of horses and the healing power of nature. While RiverView is proudly a horse rescue farm and the home of Nokota Grace Equine Assisted Healing Program, not every horse here is a rescue—yet all contribute their gentle presence to the sanctuary’s embrace. Guests are welcomed by peaceful pastures, quiet trails, and the rhythmic life of the farm, where horses graze, play, and share their unique personalities. Whether interacting with rescued horses, rebuilding trust, or meeting longtime residents who guide visitors through moments of connection, every experience is grounded in compassion and belonging. RiverView Farm invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and discover the magic of human and horse partnership, in a place where hope, healing, and community grow side by side. So come, sit and rest in the presence of the healing energy of the horse, and enter a world where words are not needed—as the horses meet you exactly where you are, offering a safe space simply to be yourself.
Nokota Grace is not therapy, coaching, or a program to complete. It is an experience of being met—by the horses, the land, and oneself.
People often leave feeling:
steadier
more grounded
clearer about what matters
more connected to their inner guidance
safe enough to begin healing
You do not need prior experience with horses.
You do not need to believe anything in particular.
You only need a willingness to be present.
Still have questions?
-
No. Nokota Grace is not therapy, counseling, or a clinical service. It is a relational, experiential offering that supports awareness, grounding, and emotional steadiness through time spent with horses.
Participants are welcome to engage alongside any therapeutic or medical care they may already have.
-
No experience with horses is required. Sessions are designed for people of all backgrounds, including those who have never been around horses before.
The work takes place on the ground, at a pace that feels safe and respectful for both participants and horses.
-
Sessions unfold gently and responsively rather than following a fixed script. Time may include standing or walking quietly with the horses, noticing breath and body awareness, and allowing the interaction to develop naturally.
There is no pressure to speak, perform, or “do” anything in a particular way.
-
Nokota Grace may be supportive for people who are:
navigating life transitions
feeling emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected
seeking grounding and clarity
carrying grief or fatigue
curious about relational, nonverbal ways of healing
It is especially suited for those who are drawn to a slower, gentler approach.
-
Feeling unsure is completely okay. Sessions honor personal boundaries and comfort levels at all times. Participants are never asked to approach a horse beyond what feels safe and appropriate.
Listening to your own body and comfort is considered part of the work.
-
Nokota Grace is not affiliated with any religion or belief system. Some people experience the work as spiritual; others experience it simply as grounding and calming.
You do not need to hold any particular beliefs to participate.
We honor the horse as teacher, the land as sanctuary, and the participant as a sacred story unfolding.
We walk with humility, reverence, and deep respect for the lineage of healing that moves through this work.
Nokota Grace exists to restore what has always been true:
that healing is relational, spiritual, embodied, and guided by the quiet wisdom of the horse. -
While Nokota Grace involves time with horses, it is not a structured equine therapy or skills-based program. The emphasis is not on goals, outcomes, or techniques, but on presence, relationship, and responsiveness.
The horses are partners in the experience, not tools used to achieve a result.
-
Session length and frequency vary and are guided by the nature of the offering and the participant’s needs. Some people come for a single experience; others return periodically.
There is no expectation of ongoing commitment.
-
That’s okay. Nokota Grace does not require you to arrive with a clear intention or goal. Curiosity and willingness to be present are enough.
